Walkers, Mad Men and Busey, Oh my! What began as a whirlwind of panic, what with the EIGHT cancellations; including two of the main people for myself, Norman Reedus and Jake Busey. Ended on a rather high note as the weekend more than made up for it’s lack of guarantee on the matter. Now my obligatory speech on how sure, there were plenty of people all around the genres to still go and check out. But when that one or several guests have to change plans, it can certainly put a damper on ones weekend. To then arrive with the ridicules wind and weather that Thursday, had myself just the slightest bit worried that especially, all would not end well. However my frown was easily turned around as the convention started and I began making my regular rounds. First and always is Felix Matos. Always try and check out the artists first, that way if there are ANY great paintings or stills, you’ll be able to beat out the crowd. Went around to meet some of the essentials (for myself) and will hold the conversations placed with each near and dear. That is one of the greatest things about these cons right?? Most guests were surly willing to converse. But am I wrong in thinking a great drinking game would have been to take a shot anytime Mr. Busey offended someone? It would have made the weekend that much more interesting! Spent the rest of the night in costume and checking out the Circus of the Damned party which was pretty awesome. For the next day I would spend about seven hours in one of the rooms (luckily they were all back to back). Rocky Horror was later in the night and I know there will be those that say they couldn’t take the heckler. Took myself a while to get into that aspect. But it was certainly fun, I just wish they could have moved it into one of the screening rooms. The space was entirely too small and even with them periodically running around, it was hard to actually enjoy the experience at hand. Sunday was spent a bit more laid back as I finished searching the vendors for any other great finds.
Now of course there will be those that say “Hey, that’s not everything that happened.” And I’ll bet you were all the brightest in your class. No, I did not cover everything but simply because I go to enjoy my time, just as many of you do. Sticking to a schedule just as many regular attendees may. Mixed with some nonsense wanderings to simply take in the event, like many others may follow. I didn’t even take as many photos as I did of last year’s convention but because I was able to get more videos of the panels I attended. So! MY schedule was as follows: Friday: Frighteners Panel and the Circus of the Damned party. Would have included the Busey vs Busey Panel but was cancelled due to Jake being one of the cancellations. Saturday: Full Moon Rising/(half) Alien/The Lords of Salem and Danny Trejo is Loco Panels. Screenings: The Last Will & Testament of Rosalind Leigh and Maniac. Then the midnight screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show featuring Amber Does Dallas. With Sunday coming down to only attending The Real Grindhouse Panel.
Other scheduled events: Panels: Pet Sematary/World of Stuart Gordon/Steve Railsback/Jason vs M. Myers vs Cropsy/ Monstro Bizarro/Horror Comics/Clu & John Gulager Q&A/Dee Wallace (Solo)/Tom Savini
Even more scheduled events: Frightmakers 101: The Post Modern horror film/How Authors continue to scare us/Hands-On Makeup to Die for Demo. Book Release Party/Scaryoke and Eleven other Screenings to choose from. Among several Authors, Artists, Frightmakers and Actors parading about the convention.
